Who doesn’t love Popcporn? I know I do. If you’re looking to make your own popcorn from the most natural ingredients, why not try  Neals Yard Wholefoods – Popping Corn. We were kindly sent a bag to try out last week, something for me and my girls to try together. We usually buy our popcorn already popped so when this arrived I was a little nervous. I’d never made my own popcorn before and I didn’t have a popcorn maker. I know that might sound silly but that’s what I was thinking.
I followed the instructions on the back of the packet and here’s how I got on.
I added 4 Tablespoons of oil into a saucepan and put onto a high heat. After a minute I then added a small amount of the popping corn. Just enough to cover the bottom of the pan.
A hand with pink nail varnish holds the lid on a pot of popcorn popping on a white gas cooker. The popcorn can be seen through the glass lid as it cooks. The person is wearing a bright pink sleeve. The hob and worktop are partially visible.

I then held the lid on as I’d never done it before and was worried the force of the popping corn may push it up. It didn’t though, so you have no need to worry if you’re a newbie to this like me. After a few minutes they started to POP. My girls loved watching them through our transparent lid. It was great to see their faces light up as the popcorn POPS got more frequent. After a minute I turned off the heat and waiting until the popping sounds stopped before taking off the lid. I was amazed at how much popcorn we had made. My pan was full to the top!
A glass-lidded saucepan on a hob is filled with freshly popped popcorn. The lid is fogged up with steam, and some popcorn is pressed against the glass. The hob burners and control knobs are visible in the background.
I can’t believe how easy it all was. We had made our very own popcorn and it was no problem at all. We poured our popcorn into a huge bowl and sprinkled a little sugar over it to add a little extra flavour but you don’t have to or you could add any topping you like really.
A large, white bowl filled with freshly popped popcorn sits on a light-coloured surface. The popcorn is lightly golden in some spots, with fluffy, irregular shapes. The bowl is almost overflowing, and no toppings or seasonings are visible.
It was really nice, so fresh and yummy! We only used a tiny bit of our bag so there’s lots more popcorn making fun left for us to enjoy. We might try adding some melted chocolate or a little honey next time too.

Neals Yard Wholefoods Popping Corn is available from Holland and Barret’s for just £189 for a huge bag of 500grams. It’s a great bargain.
With Christmas coming up I’m thinking we might be making some popcorn chains to put on our tree.
