Annie the Musical Hits Birmingham’s Hippodrome
and It’s Smiles All Round.
Last night, Annie the Musical came to town and we were lucky enough to be there on Press night. We were so excited beforehand as Annie has been such a memorable part of this family since I was a little girl. It’s always been one of my favourites since I watched the original movie and even now I often find myself singing ‘The Sun will come out, Tomorrow’.
Set in 1930s New York during The Great Depression, a sweet young girl named Annie is forced to live a life of misery at Miss Hannigan’s orphanage for girls. Her luck changes one day when she’s chosen to spend a fairytale Christmas with famous billionaire, Oliver Warbucks. Whilst Annie is living the high life, spiteful Miss Hannigan has other ideas and hatches a plan to spoil Annie’s search for her true family but will she have a happy ending?
With its Tony award-winning book and score, including the unforgettable songs It’s The Hard-Knock Life, Easy Street, I Don’t Need Anything But You and Tomorrow, you can bet your bottom dollar that you’ll love it! We can happily say – we did! It’s amazing!
The kids were fantastic, they really filled the room with fun and laughter throughout the show. We loved Miss Hannigan played by the lovely Jodie Prenger and her drunken shenanigans, she had us laughing all the time and Mr Warbucks, well, he was just adorable. Annie was superb and played her role so well and Sandy the dog, how cute was he? He was so well behaved and made us all laugh out loud. We sat watching the whole show in awe with a smile from ear to ear, quite literally, from the first moment right through until the very end when the whole room erupted into a standing applause for them all. It was a truly magical night, being able to see an old favourite being brought to life on the stage.
Annie is the perfect musical to take the whole family to, we all loved it.
Annie the Musical will be here at the Birmingham Hippodrome for the next three weeks. Starting from today, Wednesday 24th July and running right up until Sunday 11th August.
It’s the perfect timing for a Summer Holiday treat for the family.
