Big Summer BBQ Family Fun Raceday at Uttoxeter
Yesterday we enjoyed a very different kind of day out than we’re used to. We headed off to the Uttoxeter Racecourse for a fun filled day at the races. We’d never been before so it was all new and very exciting for us. We didn’t quite know what to expect but our day turned out pretty well as we all had a good time despite the rainy weather trying to keep us away.
More than 200 exciting Great British Racing events will take place at racecourses around the country throughout the summer holidays and, incredibly, under 18s can now go free to the vast majority of them, making it a brilliant and affordable day out for the whole family.
Yesterday, Uttoxeter hosted a Big Summer BBQ Family Fun Raceday. There was lots of family entertainment in the Centre Course for the little ones such as fun fairs and inflatables. Sadly the rain meant we didn’t go on any of these but that was OK, the children didn’t mind too much as we took our seats up on the Premier Stand and had great fun picking our horses for each race. I think the children really enjoyed the ‘thrill of the race’ and loved looking at all the horses and the jockeys as they paraded round the viewing areas.
I’m glad we had Premier Tickets as it gave us a sheltered stand out of the rain to watch the races from. It did rain a few times throughout the day but not enough to put us off going.
We had a lovely time at the races and really enjoyed the atmosphere. The children loved being able to shout out and cheer on their chosen horses as they ran past us on the stands. They laughed and cheered when they won and cried when they lost but it was all in good fun. Every child has got to learn that they can’t win at everything, so this was a great learning lesson for them. They didn’t cry for long though as there was lots of sweetie stalls around to treat them to some sweet treats which soon turned those frowns back to smiles.
Our day out at Uttoxeter was great fun. We didn’t bet too much money but had lots of winners and second places throughout the day. For us, it wasn’t about betting big, it was just about joining in. We enjoyed some treats from the food stalls, Daddy and I had a Pie and Chips and the children had Sausage and chips. There were only two food stalls there so the choice was a little limited but we managed to find something we liked and enjoyed our food.
A day at the races is not a day out I’d normally think of as a place to take the children but there were lots of children around and it was really nice to see. It may not have been our usual type of day out but in the end, we all really enjoyed our day and are glad we tried it.
