Sometimes life calls for something different. Something fun. A need to get out and explore beyond your local area or the activities you usually do. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or you simply need to scratch an itch to explore, heading to somewhere different means you can take a break from the ordinary, the routine, and really have some fun.
But where do you start? What do you need to see, and how can you pick the right experiences for you?
What Do You Like?
In the first instance, you need to decide what you like to do. What is it that you want to experience and how? There are many amazing things to do across the UK, but you need to know what you’re comfortable with.
If it’s a night away from the world and it’s silence and peace you crave, then booking an overnight stay somewhere remote like a lodge in the Lake District or up in the Highlands in Scotland, for example, might be what you need. If you want some fun and adventure, then booking an exhilarating experience could be exactly what the doctor ordered.
Budget
Your budget constraints will, of course, play a huge part in where you go. It might limit you geographically, but it won’t stop you from doing anything at all. Simply find something that lines up with your budget, search for deals, and offer vouchers to help you get more for your money — even if it’s just taking advantage of an offer for a hotel room overnight, a few miles down the road. From here, you can plan low-cost activities, if you wish, around your budget so that you can still have just as much fun even if you’re not spending much money.
Time
Time can also be somewhat of a barrier to your plans. You might only have one night you have booked a babysitter for, and need something fun that doesn’t take you away for too long. If this is true, then why not look at booking a theatre show somewhere you haven’t been before? Pick a location within an hour’s driving time and see what is on. Don’t go to your usual venue. Look for different pens within your chosen radius, for example, you can find out whats on Saint Annes if you’re in the Lancashire area, book a show and arrive ahead of time so you can check out the area before seeing the performance.
Special Events
Another way to uncover new things is to look for special events. It might be a summer festival or event in a seaside location that pulls you in — coastal towns like New Brighton on the Wirral hold a summer show each year — or you might fancy heading to a Comic Con in a new location — Manchester and Liverpool host these regularly alongside London too. Or you might want to take advantage of a work trip, book an extra day or two either side of the visit if you can and spend some time in the location to explore a bit more, so you’re killing two birds with one stone.
The thing about exploring the UK, breaking routine and doing something new, doesn’t need to be expensive, and these suggestions can give you a starting point so you can find something fun to do in a new location that gives you what you need.
