The ParaNorman Local Legends Schools and Libraries Initiative + Giveaway.
A stop-motion animated boy with spiky brown hair and large blue eyes stands smiling with arms open. Behind him, four other animated characters—two boys, a girl, and a man—stand in a dimly lit room with barred windows and scattered light.
The ParaNorman Local Legends Schools and Libraries Initiative is all about building  relationships with schools and libraries by including exclusive competitions that see the participants showcase their ParaNorman based work to Universal. The idea is that children aged 7-10 can create their own school legends of their own based around their own community having its own local legends, ghost stories, folklore, oral history or unique characters.

The image shows the "ParaNorman Local Legends" logo with chunky, textured letters in green shades. "PARANORMAN" appears large and arched above, fading from yellow-green at the top to dark green at the bottom, with "LOCAL LEGENDS" in smaller yellow-green text below.

In the classroom children will research or create these (e.g. you could create a school legend of your own) using history, geography, creative writing, art and drama.

In the library setting this will take the form of an event using local stories and history as a starting point, inviting local historians, museums, actors, writers in to take part. Throughout the process, teachers and librarians will be using Norman’s tale as an example and using ParaNorman resources to illustrate their teaching/discussion points.
Participating groups can showcase their creative work (work that runs with the themes of ParaNorman) to Universal for a chance to win £1000 of media equipment (for schools) and £*** for a children’s reading area makeover (libraries).
Suggested ways of doing this are creating an online album, writing a class ‘local’ newspaper, writing a play about their local legend, creating a mural, creating a storyboard or flick book for a stop-motion short story. It sounds like it could be lots of fun.
Resource packs will be mailed out to participating schools and libraries which will include the following:
  1. Covering letter with hints, tips and a drive to online resources for the teacher or librarian
  2. Poster for classroom/event poster for library
  3. ParaNorman giveaways (stickers, bookmarks, postcards, masks)
  4. ParaNorman Local Legends Reporter’s Notebook – a fully branded 8pp notebook with space for children to write their findings, draw and map their discoveries.
All Schools and libraries will then submit their entries for Universal to judge. If you think you’re school or library would like to take part, then please do mention it too them. I’m sure Universal would love for you all to get involved, there’s some amazing prizes to be won.

They can sign up HERE. The first 100 teachers or librarians to sign up for a pack will receive a free pair of cinema vouchers from Universal! (Awesome)
